Youth Development Update #6

Programming News:

1)       I’ll be in the office Wednesday (25) – Friday (27) of this week.  And Monday (30) and Tuesday (1) of next week.  And, always on my cell.  Call often.

2)       Attached to this email is a revised/updated version of our “YD Project Framework Flushed Out document” that I hope helps you in elaborating your QRs and reminding you of what you’re here to do.  Enjoy.  YD 6—you already got this revised version during Orientation.  Here’s an electronic copy.  It’s also on your tech CD.

3)       Also attached is a revised/updated version of our YD framework in SPANISH.  YD 6—ditto from above.  All feel free to use this with your counterparts to remind them over and over again what YDers do.

4)       If you’d like an updated version of the YD tech CD that gets beefed-up by Kiva every cycle, just bring me (or Kiva if you’re closer to San V) a CD and we’ll gladly burn you a copy.

YD Volunteer News:

1)      YD 6 has sworn-in and they’re at their new sites!    Congratulations to Mary Susan (Sonsonate), Rachel (La Union), Celia (La Union), Reagan (Morazan), Chris (Morazan) and Pati (Chalate).  Welcome to you all!

2)      Congrats to Allie Hayden (YD 2, Ahuachapan) whose Partnership Proposal for an excursion with youth to the Tin Martin Museum here in San Salvador was fully funded just recently!  Rock on Allie.
3)
                3)  Congrats to Haunnah Sorensen (YD 1, Morazan) who was recently accepted into Washington University’s College of Education; she’ll be going for a Masters in Education in the Curriculum and Instruction Program.  And same to Karen Grant (YD 2, Santa Ana) who was accepted into UCLA’s for a Masters in their Teacher Education Program.  Big-time exciting next steps ladies.  You deserve it.

4)       And just a nice summary of the fab work Jared Bell (YD 1, San Salvador) is doing with a bunch of you all in the World Computer Exchange efforts.  The first shipment distributed by the end of last year included 27 Volunteers working across 36 Communities.  In those 36 communities there were 40 schools and 14 community groups. It was estimated that 10,000 youth (24 and under) benefited from 405 computers that were sent out.
The second load is scheduled to arrive by the end of May, and includes 48 volunteers working across 99 communities with 101 schools. It's estimated that 25,000 youth will benefit from the 752 computers we are ordering now. Quite amazing, digo yo.
5)       Congrats to YD 1 who will be having their COS conference next week, May 2 – 4.  Jermain, Jo-Jo, Michelle, Eddy, Anna, Haunnah and Jared—ROCKSTARS—YES!
